The proposed COVID-19/Influenza events and activities will have several key impacts on the target population and broader community:
STRONGER COMMUNITY NETWORKS
The Gamma Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, partners with the National Council of Negro Women’s Good Health WINs initiative, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, and local organizations, including the NAACP Temple Branch, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, and other civic groups. Together, we raise community awareness with resources from Bell County Public Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Impact:
These partnerships foster collaboration and empower local leaders to advocate for public health. This, in turn, strengthens community involvement and ownership of health initiatives.
Specific Outcome:
A more united and mobilized community, ready to respond effectively to public health challenges through strong, trust-based networks.
INCREASED VACCINATION RATES
Impact:
By offering accessible vaccine clinics through partnerships with health departments, community clinics, and mobile units, the target population, particularly underserved communities, will have greater access to COVID-19 and influenza vaccines. This will lead to higher immunization rates, reducing the spread of these illnesses.
Specific Outcome:
An increase in local vaccination rates, particularly in populations with historically low participation due to barriers like vaccine hesitancy or limited access.
REDUCTION IN HEALTH DISPARITIES
Impact:
Collaboration with other organizations like the NAACP Temple Branch, Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, and churches ensures that communities of color and marginalized populations receive targeted health education and services. This will help reduce the disparity in health outcomes seen during the pandemic, where these groups were disproportionately affected.
Specific Outcome:
Narrowing the gap in infection rates, hospitalizations, and severe outcomes for COVID-19 and influenza among minority and underserved populations.
IMPROVED PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION
Impact:
Educational seminars, both in schools and churches, will raise awareness of the risks associated with co-infection of COVID-19 and influenza, how to prevent it, and the importance of vaccines. Addressing vaccine hesitancy through trusted community voices will increase informed decision-making.
Specific Outcome:
Greater public understanding of the importance of vaccines and hygiene practices, leading to more proactive health behaviors, such as getting vaccinated, wearing masks when necessary, and practicing good hand hygiene.
DECREASED STRAIN ON HEALTHCARE RESOURCES
Impact:
By increasing vaccination rates and educating the public, the community will experience fewer severe cases of both COVID-19 and influenza, reducing hospitalizations and emergency room visits during peak flu seasons.
Specific Outcome:
Lower hospitalization rates and healthcare costs, ensuring local hospitals and clinics are better equipped to handle other critical health issues.
These impacts aim to create a healthier, more informed, and resilient community that can better prevent and manage future public health challenges.
